Denver Startup Week Headquarters

Thank you for attending Chris’s Denver Startup Week's Cooking Up a Software Team from Scratch presentation, and for those who could not make it, here is a recap of what you missed. This presentation was intended for anyone looking to learn ways to create a successful software team from scratch, regardless of technical background. During his career, Chris has built and maintained an entire software division. He was excited to share his successes and the essential lessons he learned using a cooking metaphor. There were over 100 people who attended his talk, and there were even more insightful conversations and questions throughout and after the presentation.

Here Are a Few Golden Nuggets from the Presentation:

  1. The more you understand the project upfront, the better you can build the right team for the job.

  2. Strong technical leadership is the key to project success. Whether it is a technical founder or a hired CTO, this position needs to be filled before your project starts.

  3. A quality development approach is the strongest asset for a team. Focusing on it from the start can save huge amounts of time in the long run.

  4. A universal software engineer is a myth. It would help if you balanced a team based on the members' expertise.
